  • Several airlines offer direct flights from major U.S. cities to Lisbon:

    • Direct flights are available from New York (JFK and Newark), Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Washington D.C.

    • Airlines such as TAP Air Portugal, United Airlines, and American Airlines operate nonstop routes.

    • Flight times typically range from 6 to 8 hours depending on your departure city.

    • If you are a U.S. citizen traveling for tourism or business and staying 90 days or less, you do not need a visa to enter Portugal.

    • If you are coming from another European country within the Schengen Area, no visa is needed.

    • Summer (June–August): Highs between 25°C and 30°C (77°F–86°F).

      Lisbon is one of Europe's sunniest capitals, boasting over 2,800 hours of sunshine annually. Summers are especially bright, with July and August offering the most sun.

    • Winter (December–February): Highs around 15°C (59°F); lows around 8°C (46°F).

    • You can stay a maximum of 3 months if you do not have European Residency.

    • If you are part of the EU, you can stay a maximum of 6 months.

    • Most workshops last 1 to 2 weeks. We also offer 3- week workshops during the winter months.

    • All our workshops have an English speaker lead or a translator.

    • Our working languages are English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Japanese when we host Japanese artists.

    • We accept a maximum of 5 Art Resident Artists at a time.

    • For Writing Residencies, we accept a maximum of 3 at a time.

    • You can apply year-round

    • Residency fees vary depending on medium. Contact us for more details.

  • We only offer housing for our Artist and Writer Residents. For people participating in the workshops, we can help you find the best accommodation for your budget. There are plenty of lodging options in the city.

    • Wheelchair-accessible studios, and bathrooms.

    • Ramps, wide doorways for easy mobility.

    • Adjustable-height worktables and equipment.

    • Step-free access to all key areas (studios, galleries, dining rooms)

    • Permission for service animals

    • Contact options for artists to ask specific accessibility questions before applying.
